Jesus laid aside His Crown as King of Heaven, emptied Himself of all Glory (Kenosis in Greek), took the form of a Servant (Philippians 2:7) to start His Mission on planet earth. The Gospels though inspired by the Holy Spirit, chose not to divulge detailed information about His early life, until he became thirty - the age when Levites entered ministry. Stepping into the waters of Baptism to fulfil all righteousness (Matthew 3:15); the Father openly acknowledged that Jesus was His Beloved Son in whose life He was well pleased (Matthew 3:17), though He was just a wood worker and not a wonder worker! It is ironical, that He built an unshakeable kingdom without a single hammer or a nail but with an everlasting love that never never failed!

It was at the marriage at Cana that He first revealed His Glory to His disciples as the Son of God and they believed in Him (John 2:11). But every time He referred Himself to the Pharisees as the Son of Man they were silent, but when He revealed that He is the Son of God, they rebelled. He did not claim to be slightly underneath God; or a good moral teacher and preacher nor a prophet, but declared boldly that He is “the Great I AM.” When He said that “Before Abraham was, I AM” (John 8:58), the Jews recognized the exodus quote and out came the stones to kill Him for blasphemy.

Even the large group of followers that flocked after Him hysterically to make Him King (John 6:15); deserted Him when He said “I am the Bread of Life” (John 6:35).In His deepest hour of crisis at Gethsemane, His close disciples too left Him and fled away from the scene. No one in this world, before His advent and after His ascension has suffered such “absolute rejection.” Without a cause, He said “the world has hated Me” (John 15:25) and He never wilted but held on; not to become a great religious leader in the supermarket shelf of world religions, but stake His claim as the only Way, the Truth and the Life (John 14:6), so that all other philosophies and religions are seen as cul-de-sac. They are not equal trails up the mountain but they are dead – ends. He is the only Way to God where all who receive Him and believe in His Name, become the Children of God (John 1:12).

Finally, in pointing out His identity to Nathaniel as Jacob’s Ladder, He strengthens His case as the one and only link between earth and heaven through whom all mankind on earth could connect to the Father in Heaven (John 1:51). Even if any man through any other religion should reach the pearly gates, which is nigh on impossible, let us not forget what He declared while on earth, that He is the only DOOR (John 10:7) to Heaven!
