THE REJECTION OF JESUS CHRIST

When Jesus came to minister to the lost sheep of Israel, He became famous but not popular with all the people. Large multitudes flocked around Him wherever He went, just to listen to His teachings and witness His supernatural miracles.

John records in chapter six, that after the mindboggling miracle of feeding the five thousand with just five loaves and two fish, the crowds were about to come and take Him by force to make Him their king. They thought that if Jesus was made king He could use His miracle working power to provide sustenance throughout their lifetime. When Jesus offered His body and His blood in the place of food and clothing they were disappointed. They could not understand the concept of Jesus dying for them and were also wonderstruck that the Jewish religion was crossing its limits to embrace cannibalism, where the followers were expected to eat the body and drink the blood of their teacher.

When Jesus came to town riding on a donkey, they gave Him a red carpet welcome, thinking that He would lead an army like King Alexander the great to conquer the Romans and set them free from the Roman rule. Realizing within a few days that Jesus was not going to stage a coup to overthrow the Roman government, they turned so hostile that they condemned Him to be crucified.

Jesus belied all their expectations to fulfill His Father’s mandate for the world. He was not sent by God just to redeem the Jews from the Roman rule but to redeem the whole world by destroying the works of the devil and reconcile man to God   (1 John 3:8b).
