While Christmas is being celebrated worldwide as the birthday of Jesus, it has been a growing concern that many Bible believing Christians view His supernatural birth (baby born without the involvement of a male) with a great deal of scepticism. Little do they realise that Jesus’ birth can be very convincingly explained through a remarkable occurrence in genetic science called parthenogenesis.
The Greek root meaning ‘Virgin creation’ is a common phenomenon in the animal kingdom where reproduction takes place from an ovum without fertilisation. Komodo dragons, monitor lizards, geckos, zebra sharks, pythons, honey bees and many more species fall into this category. In a species, males do not exist at all. But the only limitation that parthenogenesis entails is the inability of the female to reproduce a male offspring with only Jesus being the exception in all of creation!
Apostle John is the only Gospel writer who has presented Jesus in (John 1:1) as the God of Creation in the book of Genesis. Jesus existed long before He was born. He created the universe before He became a creature just for the sake of His flagship creation – Man. He created the trees much before He came into the world to work on wood as a carpenter. He is the only one in human history who chose to be born, signifying that He knew before His incarnation who His parents would be. Conversely, in the annals of human reproduction, it is our parents who chose to bring us into the world.
Ps. Benny Hinn in his Marina Beach crusade in Chennai city many years ago, very succinctly brought out the truth that Jesus, the Son of God (creator) became the Son of man (creature) so that we the sons of men (humanity) could become the Sons of God (divinity). While Jesus brought divinity into humanity on earth, He also took humanity to the divine Godhead in Heaven, that we in the New Testament have someone who understands us and intercedes on our behalf to the Father, extending grace and running the universe, seated at the right-hand of God. Without Jesus both physical life (Col. 1:17) and spiritual life (John 5:39,40) fade away into nothingness.
He is the perfect epitome of the person of God that man can ever get to know. Amen
