THE UNIQUE BOAT TRIP WITH JESUS (John 6:15-21 )

Jesus had fed the five thousand in the Tiberias side of Galilee, by multiplying the five loaves and two fish given by a young lad. It was an unusual day of hard work, with the disciples having to bend their backs in serving the great multitude and collecting the fragments left over by them.

After this miracle, Jesus perceiving that the crowd was head over heels to take Him by force and make Him king – withdrew to the hills by Himself to pray. When evening came, His disciples went down to the sea, got into a boat and started rowing across to Capernaum. They found the going tough, as their boat was beaten by the waves and the wind was against them.

Around the fourth watch (3 O’clock in the morning), they saw Jesus walking on the sea and drawing near to their boat saying, “It is I, do not be afraid”. Though the disciples were initially frightened, they gladly took Him into the boat and found to their great amazement, that the wind had completely ceased. John records, that when Jesus got into the boat, it was immediately transported to the shore where they were heading to! (John 6:21).

In the Bible, we have read about individuals like Elijah and Philip being taken up physically to a different place, but this is the only incident we find, that the boat with Jesus and His disciples, instantaneously transported to the shore. The arrival of Jesus in their hour of struggle led to an incredulous miracle!
