THE GREEN FIG TREE

Mark 11: 12 – 14: 20

When Jesus and His disciples came from Bethany, he was hungry. And seeing in the distance a fig tree in leaf, He went to see if He could find anything on it. When He came to it, He found nothing but leaves, for it was not the season for figs. And He said to it, “may no one ever eat fruit from you again”. And His disciples heard it (V12 – 14).

As they passed by in the morning they saw the fig tree withered away to its roots (V20).

THE THREE M’S

Mt 19:23 – Mt 20:16

Jesus said to His disciples, “Truly, I say to you, it will be hard for a rich man to enter the kingdom of heaven”. When the disciples heard this they were astonished (Mt 19:23-25). When He emphasized the same truth in the gospel of Mark, it is recorded that the disciples were first amazed and then exceedingly astonished (Mk 10:24, 26).

THE GREATEST BENEFIT OF PRAYER

Mark 1:35-38 “And in the morning, a great while before day, Jesus rose and went out to a lonely place, and there He prayed.  And Simon and those who were with Him pursued Him and they found Him and said to Him, “Everyone is searching for You.” And He said to them, “Let us go on to the next towns, that I may preach there also; for that is why I came out.”
