God proved that He had the power to resurrect, when the dead branch of Aaron budded almonds, to prove that only Aaron and team were called and not Korah's team (Numbers 17:8). Elijah and Elisha raised the dead in the Old Testament and Jesus had raised many from the dead during His ministry.
However, before Jesus died, His disciples could not understand or believe when He taught about His resurrection. In spite of Jesus teaching many times about the resurrection, the concept of coming back to life did not sink into their minds.
To start with, all the people that were brought to life from death in the Old Testament and New Testament – eventually died. In the case of Jesus Christ it was not just another raising from the dead but a totally different one, as He is alive - forever.
Furthermore, when Lazarus came out of the tomb resurrected to life, his hands and feet were bound with bandages and his face was wrapped with a cloth. Lazarus needed someone to unbind him and let him go. But when Jesus was raised up, Simon Peter the disciple saw grave clothes and head cloth lying undisturbed with an empty space separating the head cloth from the rest (John 20:7). No one could steal the body and arrange the grave clothes like that. The body of Jesus could have only passed through or escaped without the linen cloths being unwound. When John saw this, he took note and believed (John 20:8). The Bible by itself provides sufficient evidence to the truth that Jesus rose from the dead and there are 517 more witnesses to this fact in the New Testament.
Do we need any more evidence that Jesus is alive and seated at the right hand of God? Romans 8:34, Ephesians 1:20, Colossians 3:3 and many more verses substantiate this truth.
Thought for the day: The resurrection of Lazarus was just like a gas lighter, but the resurrection of Jesus was a nuclear bomb!
