God chose Samson before he was conceived in his mother’s womb, raised him up as a Nazarite and placed the entire burden of Israel on his strong shoulders, so that he would be a one man army defending it from the marauding Philistines. The Spirit of Might which rested upon Jesus (Isaiah 11:2), came up so heavily upon him time and again, that his Herculean exploits still remain unmatched in Judeo-Christian history.
Sharing what scriptures have recorded, Samson could tear apart a roaring lion as one tears a kid; catch three hundred foxes in no time, tie their tails in pairs and set them on fire; slay a thousand men with a jawbone of an ass; carry the iron gates of a city on his shoulders while running uphill; and finally bring down a massive building to rubbles, killing all his detractors and himself in one last Parthian shot!
In spite of all his super human efforts to defend Israel from its enemies, how wretched he would have felt inside of him at the fag end of his life, after losing his vision in both eyes, only to become an object of mockery and a pet sport to his enemies.
Samson’s life teaches us a lesson on what true victory is.
Here is a quote I’ve put together, based on his life -
“True victory lies in who we are inside of us and not in our worldly pursuits.”
