Luke 19:29 – 36.
The title of this devotion ‘Blessed Donkey’ is an oxymoron. In many cultures throughout the world, the word donkey is used on people in a derogatory sense. In many ways a donkey is a miserable animal because the only time its legs are not tied is, when it carries a load on its back. When Jesus sat on this donkey on Palm Sunday, its value sky rocketed. The crowds put their clothes on it to decorate it and even spread a carpet for it to walk. An ordinary donkey used by the King of heaven, suddenly turned a government servant for the heavenly kingdom. If Jesus did not sit on this donkey, it would have only perished carrying man’s burdens.
Before Jesus decided to use this donkey, He got it untied. Don’t we strike a similarity with this donkey that we too were once tied up in bondage to the enemy of our souls, but Jesus set us free! Though this animal was not respected or put to service by any man, Jesus decided to use it.
That which is scorned and humiliated by the world, Jesus says, “I want to use it”. With all the glamour and clamour around those serving Jesus the King of the universe, let’s not forget that we too were once like this despicable donkey till Jesus set us free!
Thought for the day: Jesus has delivered and decorated us for His own glory. Can He depend on us to carry His glory and not ours, till the very end of our life’s journey?
