Matthew 27:33 – 53.
The macabre sight of a gory Jesus hanging on the cross two thousand years ago for no sin of His, is still the most powerful demonstration of selfless love on planet earth. His death brought into the Greek dictionary, one more new word for love – ‘Agape’ which expressed the fathomless and sacrificial love of God for mankind.
At the sixth hour that day, there was darkness all over the land as the sun refused to shed its light and the Son of God, the Light of the world briefly blanked out for three days for the sake of mankind. The curtain of the temple was torn into two from top to the bottom, the earth quaked and the tombs in the cemetery opened up as many were raised up from the dead. In spite of all these hair -raising incidents, the soldiers excitedly divided the garments of Jesus, totally ignorant to the greatest spectacle on earth. Seeing Jesus on the cross did not get them saved because the god of the world had blinded their spiritual eyes from understanding the truth.
Unless the Lord opens the eyes of the people, like He did to the two men who walked with Him on the road to Emmaus, no man can get to perceive the truth. There are many even today who are totally ignorant of what God did for the world on that day.
Thought for the day: Even seeing did not get many saved but believing can!
