Luke 12: 54 – 56

Jesus said to the multitudes, “When you see a cloud rising in the west, you say at once, ‘A shower is coming’; and so it happens. And when you see the south wind blowing, you say, ‘There will be scorching heat’; and it happens. You hypocrites! You know how to interpret the appearance of earth and sky; but why do you not know how to interpret the present time?

When Jesus was talking about the signs of the times (present and future), He commended the crowd for their natural ability to foresee weather patterns of any place, by observing the earth and the sky. When the wind blew from the west, they would anticipate rain, since the source of it was the Mediterranean Sea. When the wind blew from the south, they would get prepared for a scorching day, since the source was the Sahara desert. Seldom did they go wrong in their predictions.

Jesus was incensed and curious to know - if the wind from the west and the south could bring a message to them, why were they so insensitive to the spiritual wind which is very much real, yet invisible. This unseen spiritual wind is the world of the Holy Spirit and all other spirits - obscure to the human eye.

Failure to fix the source of a spiritual crisis can deprive any Christian of his vim, vigour and vitality to lead a healthy physical and spiritual life. It is imperative that every Christian accept the truth, that the natural world is controlled by the spiritual world and spiritual crises cannot be resolved by natural ways and means.

Thought to ponder –

It is better to locate and kill the spider than to clean the cobwebs daily.
