PURITY OF HEART

Blessed are the pure in heart for they shall see God (Matthew 5:8)

When a medical doctor refers to the human heart, he is talking about the physical condition of the heart, while a spiritual man gives it a different meaning.  For example, when a prophet of God says, that ‘the heart is not right’ he actually means that the motive or the intention of one’s heart is not right.

MEEKNESS IS NOT WEAKNESS

Blessed are the meek, for they shall inherit the earth. Matthew 5:5

Years ago, there appeared a column in the newspaper which read, “Blessed are the meek for they shall inherit the earth- but only the leftovers!” That’s exactly what the world thinks about meekness, because it believes in the survival of the fittest.

Numbers 12:3 states, that the man Moses was very meek, more than all the men on the face of the earth. As a weak person, he could not have killed an Egyptian with bare hands and buried him in the sand (Exodus 2:12).

ABJECT POVERTY IN SPIRIT

Matthew 5: 3 ‘Blessed are the poor in spirit for theirs is the kingdom of Heaven’.

The Sermon on the Mount can be divided into four sections. Jesus started to preach on attitudes, moved on to actions, then to the alarms and finally the awards in life - after death. It is the attitude that matters foremost to God and not the aptitude or the altitude in life.

HEARING THE COMMANDER’S VOICE

Apostle Paul in Ephesians 5 and 6, talks about the way a Christian should conduct himself with the seen world - slaves to their masters, husbands to their wives and children to their parents (Ephesians 5:21 – 6:9). Towards the end of the letter, Paul addresses the Christians’ defense against the unseen world – the principalities and powers, the world’s ruler of darkness and the spiritual host of wickedness in the heavenly places. He instructs all flesh and blood to put on the whole armour of God to be able to stand against the wiles of the unseen enemy (Ephesians 6:11).

THE IGNORED SERMON OF JESUS

All over the world, even people from other faiths, talk very highly of Jesus’ Sermon on the Mount which is well documented in the Gospel of Matthew from chapter 5 to chapter 7. It is understood from the Bible point of view, that the word ’World’ always refers to a ‘society without God’.
