MEEKNESS IS NOT WEAKNESS

Blessed are the meek, for they shall inherit the earth. Matthew 5:5

Years ago, there appeared a column in the newspaper which read, “Blessed are the meek for they shall inherit the earth- but only the leftovers!” That’s exactly what the world thinks about meekness, because it believes in the survival of the fittest.

Numbers 12:3 states, that the man Moses was very meek, more than all the men on the face of the earth. As a weak person, he could not have killed an Egyptian with bare hands and buried him in the sand (Exodus 2:12).

A meek horse ridden by a soldier in battle is used to best describe meekness. In the midst of fierce combat, a meek horse diligently responds to the slightest movement of the soldier, who communicates to the horse through his voice, hands, knees and legs.  In simple words, just like a meek horse which is totally subject to the will of the rider, (power under control) a meek person will respond to whatever God says. He is very teachable and willing to bear with the shortcomings of others. Moses, the meek man of God suffered much because of the faults of the people whom he brought out of Egypt. He never got to enter the Promised Land because of his own people.

Even James encouraged the dispersed Christians to receive the engrafted word of God with meekness which is able to save their souls (James 1:21).

Thought for the Day: Like a soldier on a meek horse, God uses meek people (teachable and tolerant) to get His work done.
