REWARD FOR FAITH

Jesus did His first miracle in the wedding at Cana to manifest His divine glory - for His disciples to believe in Him (John 2:11). It was still the incipient stage of His ministry, when Jesus after a teaching session told Peter (whose boat was used as a pulpit) to launch into the deep and cast his nets. Every fisherman in the Sea of Galilee knew the basic fact, that daylight was not the best time for fishing and nobody went into the deep, as shoals of fish crowded only near the shore seeking oxygen.

Peter, an expert fisherman by trade, also knew fully well that Jesus had only been a carpenter and not a fisherman like him. Unwilling to offend Him, he reluctantly cast his net (singular in KJV) instead of nets (plural) in unbelief, only to be astounded by the biggest ever catch he had witnessed in his lifetime. Quickly realizing that Jesus was more than a religious leader, Peter fell at His feet, called Him Lord and confessed that he was a sinful man. (Luke 5:3-9)

Sometime later, Peter encountered another faith-challenging situation, when Jesus told him to go to the sea, cast a hook and catch the first fish, open its mouth and take the silver coin to pay the tax for Jesus and himself. (Sounds incredulous isn’t it?) After walking with Jesus and watching His marvelous deeds, Peter’s faith had substantially grown, that he instantly obeyed His Lord and Master without any doubt. As a reward for his faith, Peter went home rejoicing with a double blessing – money for the tax and fish for dinner! (Matt 17:24-27)

Peter’s faith had grown from saving faith to stronger faith.

        Here’s a four-liner I’ve put together as a thought for the day –

If you look to Jesus as a carpenter,

He may fix your tables and chairs –

If you look to Him as your Saviour

He’ll surprise you anytime, anywhere!
