Nothing excites a child of God more than an answered prayer. The very feeling, that we have a God who listens and answers prayer, is so refreshing to the soul. There are many phases in the Bible where God had been silent for many moons and His people had to wait agonizingly, to have their prayers answered and promises fulfilled.
God never spoke to Abraham for thirteen years after Ishmael was born, before appearing to him as El-Shaddai, when he was ninety nine (Genesis 17:1).
Daniel, a man beloved of God was given a clean chit when God spoke through Ezekiel, that Job, Noah and Daniel were the most righteous men that ever lived until that day (Ezekiel 14:14). Even when righteous Daniel prayed, it took twenty one days for him to get an answer though God responded immediately. The message from God was intercepted in the heavenlies by powerful spirit beings (Daniel 9:12 -14). Not always the reasons for delay could be spiritual but oftentimes God waits for the right time and circumstance.
God allowed Saul to chase David from pillar to post till he entered the land of the Philistines, where he learnt the ‘iron culture’ to make deadly weapons for warfare. In other words, God waited till David became familiar with this art, before making him a king, so that he could be victorious in all his future battles. It took fifteen years for God’s promise to be fulfilled for David to become king.
Jonah prayed from the depths of the ocean and the Lord heard his prayer. His deliverance was not immediate because it took some time for the fish to swim closer to the land and spew him out. If Jonah expected immediate deliverance after his prayer, the fish would have probably cast him into the ocean!
